La Escuela Bronco:
Building a Bridge from Bronxville to Honduras
We’re a group of four high school sophomores, William, Teddy, Alexander and Anthony, who have grown up together in Bronxville, NY. We’ve played on the same sports teams, celebrated each other’s birthdays, and spent years learning side by side. Now, we’re taking on a new kind of team project that reaches beyond our hometown.
Our goal is to raise $50,000 by the summer of 2026 to build a school in rural Honduras in partnership with FEIH. This school will be called La Escuela Bronco, symbolizing the spirit of our Bronxville community and the bright future we hope to help create for Honduran children.
Why Honduras? Why Us?
Visiting Honduras as a volunteer for FEIH is one of the experiences that will stay with me for the rest of my life. The Honduran people were so grateful for the opportunity that FEIH has given their children, their loved ones, and their friends. Being from a wealthy community, the trip really gave me a sense of what the world was like for the underprivileged. What I saw in those few days has made me realize how lucky we are and that giving time to charities is a great way to give back to humanity.
My mom is Honduran and works with FEIH, which builds schools in under-resourced communities. I first traveled to Honduras in second grade to visit one of the schools they were building. What I saw there changed my life. The existing school had one teacher, one classroom, and 50 students—and no materials. Later on that trip, I watched a new school open. Kids my age were celebrating just for the chance to go to school. Parents were crying with joy. That was the first time I realized how lucky I am to go to school every day—and how much I had taken it for granted.
I grew up living alongside a babysitter who was Honduran, often telling stories about her life back home. I traveled there for the first time this summer, and it was such a special experience and eye opening to go to a different part of the world, where even the most kindhearted children have to struggle without education that can help them get to a better future. I realized how important the gift of education is and the trip showed me how crucial it is to help others get the equal resources needed for their future.
Visiting Honduras was a transformative experience. Growing up in a privileged community, I take basic comforts and opportunities for granted. In Honduras, I saw families living in small homes, schools struggling with limited resources, and children without access to a proper education. That huge contrast opened my eyes and stayed with me. It deepened my sense of responsibility and ignited a commitment to make a meaningful difference where I can.
The Vision: One Tile at a Time
To fund this school, we’re inviting members of our Bronxville community to sponsor a custom tile for $250. Each tile will become part of La Escuela Bronco, creating a colorful mural that symbolizes the connection between our two communities. After donating, you will be invited to attend a local tile-painting workshop, where you can design your tile and be part of the creative process.
This is more than a fundraiser. It’s a chance to build something lasting and meaningful, together.
